Stampin’ Up! Greatest Journey — Thinking of You

Stampin’ Up! Greatest Journey — Thinking of You

The card I am sharing today is one that I have seen on Pinterest but this one is a CAS of Mary Deatherage’s card. Her instructions are very clear and easy to understand.  I did exactly what she said not to do and had to start over.  This is an anniversary card for my grandson and his wife.  They love to hike, so I thought this would make a great card for them.

I am entering the As You See It Challenge — Outdoors.

As my card is a fun fold, I am also entering the Creative Creases Challenge.

This is the way my card looks opened.   My card base is Starry Sky card stock.  This is almost like two cards made side-by-side to hold up a card front.  Start with 2 pieces of Starry Sky cards cut 4-1/4″ x 8-1/4″.  Score each piece at 2-1/4″, 4″, and 6-1/4″.  The first fold is a mountain fold and the other two are valley folds.

You can see the photo above for the folds.  Cut one piece 4-1/4″ x 4-1/4″(this is one of the errors I did the first time.)  Watch Mary’s video as to how to put the wings on the card front.  She gives great details.

Cut four Coastal Cabana mats 2-1/8″ x 4-1/8″, cut one Coastal Cabana mat 4-1/8″ x 4-1/8″, and cut four Coastal Cabana mats 1-5/8″ x 4-1/8″.

First cut a piece of Enjoy The Journey Designer Series Paper 4-1/2″ x 12″. After you have cut this piece, trim 1/4″ inch from the bottom where the trees are to save your mountain peaks.  If you just cut a 4-1/4″ x 12″ piece you will cut your mountain peaks off. Next, cut the following (this is where I errored again, instead of numbering my pieces 1-5 and cutting that way, I cut 4 pieces without thinking of the design of the Enjoy The Journey Designer Series Paper.  I matted each piece and when I started adhering to the card base, I realized my error.  Start over I did, this time I numbered the pieces of Designer Series Paper as I cut.  #1 was 2″ x 4″, #2 was 1-1/2″ x 4″ #3 was 4″ x 4″, #4 was 1-1/2″ and #5 was 2″ x 4″.  As I adhered to the mats, I wrote the number on the back of the mat.  Mary gives very clear details about doing this. My second go round took about 9-1/2 minutes to assembly after all the pieces were cut.

This is the back side of the card with the sentiment.  I adhered these pieces as I cut them so there was no mix-up.  I had to look through so many stamp sets to find one that was anniversary, I can not remember which set I used.  We need more anniversary sentiments.

A Basic White medium envelope gets a piece of Enjoy The Journey Designer Series Paper adhered to the envelope flap.

  2. Shirley, what a great fold! I haven’t tried it yet but thanks for the heads up about really paying attention to what our Mary says not to do! I think your grandson and his wife will truly enjoy the thoughtfulness you put into it. Thanks for sharing with us at Creative Challenge.

  3. Amazing card, Shirley! I love that new Gull Wing Fun Fold! Thanks for stamping on the edge with us at As You See It Challenges!

    1. Thanks Mary, I couldn’t have done it without your great instructions, but I need to pay more attention so there are no do overs.

  4. I just love this whole suite – so happy to see others enjoying it, too! Quite the fancy fold! I didn’t see your time, though – did you make this in 10 or less??!! Whoa!! Either way, fabulous card! Thanks so much for playing at As You See It!

    1. Thank you so much Heather for stopping by with your sweet encouraging comment. My time is the third text after the challenges. I suppose I should have listed it earlier but thought it best where I had to re-do.

  5. That is one impressive fold! I’ve seen them around and thought I might try one out but I sure wouldn’t try it on speed challenge – you’re braver than me, Shirley! Great job – that wonderful paper cries out to be used in such creative ways. Thanks for playing along with us at As You See It.
