Thinking of You with A Lavender Basket

Thinking of You with A Lavender Basket

I was so pleased when I learned how to do this basket.  I had tried for days to figure out how to get the lavender into the basket.  Sometimes I would just lay the art piece down after being frustrated that I could not figure it out.  A few days ago, an email popped up from Pinterest ( we all love Pinterest right) or those of us who use it do.  I think everyone should have a Pinterest account.  In this email were a picture and a link to a video.  After watching the video, I thought, I should have given this to my husband he would have had it done in seconds. He is one of those gifted people that can look at a problem and instantly come up with the solution. Over the years, it can become annoying at times.

So, here is my take on the beautiful card that the solution comes from. Only the basket is the same.  The card layout is my own.  I made about 6 cards before I finally achieved the color scheme I wanted.

My design was inspired by The Paper Players Challenge for this week “Dream of Spring”.

I started with a card base using the Blushing Bride cardstock. It is cut 4-1/4 x 11. I scored it at 5-1/2.

I then cut a 4 x 4 square from the Springtime Foils DSP. (You can get this free until March 31, with a $50 purchase of Stampin Up products from either the Annual or Occasions Catalog)

Next, I cut a banner using a banner die and embossed it using the basket weave embossing folder from the Blooming Basket Bundle. (This too is free with a $100 purchase until March 31)

I stamped the art piece using the basket stamp from the Blooming Basket Bundle.  As I wanted to put lavender in the basket instead of roses, I like being different, and so happy that Emma Goddard of Coastal Crafters decided she wanted to be different also, when she did the video.

You can see from the picture of the basket, where to cut so you can stick the lavender in the basket.  When I first saw the picture of the basket of lavender, I thought she had used a masking technique and was so pleased it was more simple than the masking.  A picture of where I cut is below.

I have marked in red on the picture of the basket where I cut.  Once you have the lavender placed where you want them and all of the roses are covered turn the piece over and tape the lavender stems that are sticking through.  This will prevent them from moving and being dislodged.  You can cut off the extra stems that are probably below the square you stamped the basket on.

I popped the basket of lavender onto the banner piece and added a bow from linen thread.  I added two butterflies from the Blooming Basket Bundle. The decorative accent at the top of the card is a die from the stamp set Petal Palette.

The inside sentiment is from the stamp set Blessings from Heaven.  The lavender accent, I used is from the stamp set Lots of Lavender.

The products I used for this card are listed below.
