Happy Memorial Day with Stampin’ Up! Love What You Do!

Happy Memorial Day with Stampin’ Up! Love What You Do!

Today we celebrate Memorial Day although there have been festivities all weekend. When I was a kid, Memorial Day was always the 30thof May. It was called Decoration Day.  It was made a national holiday in 1971, at that time it was moved to the last Monday in May.

Memorial Day is the day we remember what it means to be a hero. A day to remember the heroes who gave their all for their buddy next to them and for our freedom. These are the real heroes.   It is also a day we can thank those who did not get recognized with the honor they deserved when they returned from the war.

I am using the Stampin’ Up! Love What You Do stamp set to create my card today  The flowers in this set look like Poppies so for that reason I am using it.  Poppies have become a symbol for Memorial Day.  You see veterans sitting outside stores selling their poppies to raise funds for our veterans.  I am sure many of you have stopped and bought one of these.  If you see them outside a store today, stop and chat and buy one.

My inspiration comes today from the CAS on Friday Challenge.  Their challenge is to use Polka Dots in your creation.

My card has a Stampin’ Up! Blueberry Bushel card stock base.  It has been embossed using the Stampin’ Up! Embossing Folder Oh! My Stars!  How appropriate as our flag has stars on it.  Next comes a panel of red and white polka dot that is from a 6″ x 6″ pack of retired Stampin’ Up! DSP.  The cover was missing so I have no way of what 6″ x 6″ pack it is from, but it was the only red polka dot I have and as I wanted my card to be red, white, and blue I used it.  I tried to punch holes in a panel of Real Red card stock but my hole punch was not long throated enough.  This polka dot panel is matted on a panel of Stampin’ Up! Whisper White card stock and adhered to the embossed card front using Liquid Glue.   The poppy image from Stampin’ Up! Love What You Do stamp set was used to stamp the image in Stampin’ Up! Real Red and Old Olive inks.  A Stampin’ Up! Light Real Red Blends Pen was then used to color the flowers. A Stampin’ Up! Real Red Stampin’ Write Marker was used to color the small bow  made from Stampin’ Up! Linen Thread as I do not have red linen thread.

Three stars from the Best Route Enamel Shapes were scattered over the card front.  The “thinking of you” greeting is from the Stampin’ Up! Sheltering Tree stamp set (retiring June 3).  It is stamped in Blueberry Bushel ink on a scrap of Whisper White card stock and popped on the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The inside sentiment is stamped on a panel of Whisper White card stock in Blueberry Bushel ink.  The sentiments are from the new Stampin’ Up! To A Wild Rose Bundle and Believe You Can stamp set (available to customers June 4).

The envelope for the card has a matching polka dot flap.

Thanks for stopping by today.  I hope you have a fantastic Memorial Day and if you are one of those that served to help keep our country free, I am forever indebted to you and appreciate you so much.  So thank you for your service to the people of the United States of America!  Have an extra special blessed day.  To all the Gold Star families out there my heart is with you, but no one can ever tell you how it feels to lose a loved one until it is experienced.  God Bless each one of you.
