Stampin’ Up! Around The Bend With Nature’s Prints

Stampin’ Up! Around The Bend With Nature’s Prints

The card I am sharing today is an easy and simple card created using a combination of Stampin’ Up! Around The Bend Dies and Stampin’ Up! Nature’s Prints stamp set.  Also, used is the Painted Textures 3D Embossing Folder for the background panel and Timbers 3D Embossing Folder for the art piece. My card design is inspired by the Freshly Made Sketches Challenge sketch.

I started with a Basic White card stock card base.  I embossed a panel of the same for the background panel using the Painted Textures 3D Embossing Folder.  The panel is adhered to the card base using Multipurpose Liquid Glue.  I also used the Timbers 3D Embossing Folder to emboss the art panel.  The Timbers embossed panel is matted on a piece of Night of Navy card stock using Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

I die cut flowers and leaves from Basic White card stock using dies from Around The Bend Dies.  I colored the flowers and leaves using Bubble Bath, Granny Apple Green, Moody Mauve, and Pool Party Stampin’ Blends Markers. I looped several loops of Crumb Cake twine from Baker’s Twine Essential Pack so it would be under the greeting when the greeting label is adhered.  I die cut two labels using a die from Cheerful Daisies Dies, one is die cut from Basic White card stock, the other from Night of Navy card stock.  They are adhered together using Multipurpose Liquid Glue, then popped on the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Adhesive Backed Sequins from Adhesive Backed Sequins Trio are popped around the card front.

Flowers from Stampin’ Up! Nature’s Prints stamp set are stamped in Memento Black ink on a panel of Basic White card stock.  They are colored using Bubble Bath, Daffodil Delight and Pool Party Stampin’ Blends Markers. The panel is matted on a piece of Night of Navy card stock and adhered to the card base using Multipurpose Glue.

Three flowers are stamped on the envelope flap using a stamp from Stampin’ Up! Nature’s Prints stamp set.  The flowers are colored in Bubble Bath, Granny Apple Green, Moody Mauve, and Pool Party Stampin’ Blends Markers.

A single flower is stamped in Memento Black ink using a stamp from Stampin’ Up! Nature’s Prints stamp set.  The flower is colored using Daffodil Delight. Granny Apple Green, and Pool Party Stampin’ Blends Markers.

Happy Memorial Day — Honoring Those Who Gave Their All!!!

Happy Memorial Day — Honoring Those Who Gave Their All!!!

This is an old post from 5 years ago.  I thought in honor of those who gave their all I would re-post.  I hope that everyone has had an enjoyable day with family and friends.

Today we are celebrating Memorial Day.  When I was a kid, Memorial Day was always the 30th of May. It was called Decoration Day.  It was made a national holiday in 1971, at that time it was moved to the last Monday in May.

Memorial Day is the day we remember what it means to be a hero. A day to remember the heroes who gave their all for their buddy next to them and for our freedom. These are the real heroes.   It is also a day we can thank those who did not get recognized with the honor they deserved when they returned from the war.

The church I grew up in still calls it Decoration Day.  It is a big event.  Everyone takes a dish and lunch is served.  Family and friends that live out of town come for the celebration.  It is a good time to catch up with family and old friends who live out of town that you do not get to visit often.  I have a friend from childhood that has come from Oregon this year for the event as he was in the war. A far ride for an oldster, Oregon to North Carolina.

I remember the little paper poppies sold by the veterans from the local American Legion to raise money for the needs of the disabled veterans.  Poppies became the symbol of the American Legion.  The other day when I was shopping there were two old veterans sitting outside the entrance of the store taking donations.  If you made a donation, they gave you one of the little paper poppies.  Sure brought back memories of childhood and Decoration Day.

Lt. Col. John McCrae wrote a poem called “In Flander’s Field”. 1915  He had walked in a field of poppies where crosses were laid out to mark the graves of the fallen.  You can see at the end of this blog post.  There was also another poem written by Moina Michael as a tribute to Lt. Col. John McCrae’s  “In Flander’s Field”.  It too is at the end of this post.

Belgium Flanders Field

Flanders Field, Belgium John McCrae, 1872-1918 One of the most famous World War I poems was written in 1915 by Canadian John McCrae. He was inspired to write his poem on May 3rd, 1915, after performing the burial service of Alexis Helmer, a friend and fellow soldier who died in the Second Battle of Ypres, Belgium the day before. At the time, he had noted how quickly the poppies grew around the graves of those who had died. Sitting in the back of an ambulance, he composed the poem, then crumpled the paper and threw it away. Another soldier retrieved the poem and convinced McCrae to submit it for publication. McCrae worked on the poem for months before submitting it to The Spectator in London. Although they rejected it, the poem was sent to Punch where it was published on December 8th, 1915. “In Flanders Field” became the most popular poem of its era. It was republished throughout the world and became synonymous with the sacrifice of soldiers in World War I. Real poppies became a symbol for honoring soldiers of World War I are worn to this day on Remembrance Day.  Click the link below the picture and it will take you to the website this information is from.

In Flander’s Field
By Lt. Col. John McCrae, 1915
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly,
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow.,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields

Take up our quarrel with the foe
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

Lt. Col. John McCrae died of pneumonia in 1918 and is buried in Wimereux, France

We Shall Keep the Faith”
By Moina Michael
Oh! You who sleep in Flanders fields,
Sleep sweet – to rise anew!
We caught the torch you threw
And holding high, we keep the Faith
With All who died

We cherish, too, the poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led;
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies,
But lends a lustre to the red
Of the flower that blooms above the dead
In Flanders field

And now the Torch and Poppy Red
We wear in honor of our dead
Fear not that ye have died for naught;
We’ll teach the lesson that you wrought
In Flanders field

Stampin’ Up! Hello Lady Bug — You Can Bug Me…

Stampin’ Up! Hello Lady Bug — You Can Bug Me…

The card I am sharing today is created using Stampin’ Up! Hello Ladybug stamp set.  This is a cute little stamp set and I am happy I decided to give it a try.  I also used the  Fern 3D Embossing Folder and Bough Punch.

I am entering Pammie’s Inky Pinkies Challenge for this card.

I started by punching my ladybug from Basic Black and Real Red card stock.  I punched the Garden Green card stock boughs of leaves using the Bough Punch.  I punched the daisies using a Medium Daisy Punch.

I adhered the Fern 3D embossed panel to the card base using Multipurpose Glue, over the embossed panel I added a piece of Fresh As A Daisy Designer Series Paper. I added a greeting from Stampin’ Up! Forever Fern stamp set, stamped in Misty Moonlight ink on a piece of Basic White card stock and die cut using a die from Stylish Shapes Dies.  The greeting was popped on the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I popped a Iridescent  Rhinestone Basic Jewel in the center of the daisies after giving each daisy center a brush of Daffodil Delight ink.  The daisies are popped on the Fresh As A Daisy Designer Series Paper piece using Stampin’ Dimensionals.  The ladybug is also popped on the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

On a panel of Basic White card stock with a border from a piece of Fresh As A Daisy Designer Series Paper  sentiments from Stampin’ Up! Country Bouquet stamp set and Stampin’ Up! Hello Ladybug stamp set are stamped in Misty Moonlight ink.  A ladybug from Stampin’ Up! Hello Ladybug stamp set is stamped in the corner of the Basic White panel.  The panel is then adhered to the card base using Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

Basic White Medium Envelope  gets a piece of Fresh As A Daisy Designer Series Paper applied to the envelope flap using Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

Stampin’ Up! Hues of Happiness Playing In The Rain

Stampin’ Up! Hues of Happiness Playing In The Rain

The card I am sharing today is a Shirt Full of Flowers.  I used Hues of Happiness Designer Series Paper and Dainty Flowers Designer Series Paper for the Shirt.  This is a CAS of Elaine Smith’s creation.  She calls it a Floral Tuxedo card, as mine looks like a lady’s shirt, I am calling it a Shirt Full of Flowers.  You can go to Elaine’s site to see her instructions for creating because my instructions would be same as hers.

I am entering Krafty Chicks Challenge. Their theme is All Occasion Week.

I used Basic White card stock as the base for my card and Dainty Flowers Designer Series Paper for the top layer and Hues of Happiness Designer Series Paper flowers instead of pansies.  I stamped greenery from Forever Fern stamp set in Evening Evergreen and Soft Succulent inks on Basic White card stock.  I cropped the greenery using Forever Flourishing Dies. Fine Sparkle Adhesive Backed Gems are popped on the collar and seam.  A greeting from Stampin’ Up! Playing in The Rain stamp set is stamped in Polished Pink ink on a piece of Basic White card stock then cropped using a die from Stylish Shapes Dies.

Stampin’ Up! Two-Tone Floral

Stampin’ Up! Two-Tone Floral

The card I am sharing today is created using Stampin’ Up! Two-Tone Floral stamp set.  I also used a polka dot embossing folder, long tired.

My inspiration for today’s card comes from the color in the mood board and the flowers in this week’s Just Us Girls Challenge challengeJust Us Girls Challenge.

I started with a Basic White card stock card base with a piece of Basic White card stock embossed partially using a polka dot embossing folder.  The embossed panel is adhered to the card base using Multipurpose Liquid Glue. Using stamps from Stampin’ Up! Two-Tone Flora stamp set, I stamped three flowers in Polished Pink,  Highland Heather, and Gorgeous Grape ink and cropped using a die from the Two-Tone Flora Dies.  I stamped in the leaves in Shaded Spruce ink on a piece of Mint Macaron card stock and again using dies from Two-Tone Flora Dies I cropped them.

I embossed a strip of Gorgeous Grape card stock using the Quatrefoil Embossing Folder.  I then adhered the strip over the Basic White embossed panel at the halfway point between the plain and the embossed.  Over this Gorgeous Grape strip, I popped the flowers and leaves.  Several Iridescent Sequins are popped around the card front.  A greeting from Stampin’ Up! Country Bouquet stamp set is stamped in Versa Mark on a Gorgeous Grape strip, sprinkled with Basic White Embossing Powder, and heat set using a heat tool.

I stamped a flower & leaves from Stampin’ Up! Two-Tone Floral stamp set in Polish Pink and Shaded Spruce ink on a Basic White card stock panel.  I adhered this panel to the card base using Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

A Basic White envelope gets a flower from Stampin’ Up! Two-Tone Flora stamp set stamped in Polished Pink ink to the envelope flap.

I finally had to bite the bullet as former Governor Zell Miller used to say here in Georgia.  My computer crossed over that cyber bridge and is no more so I had to buy a new one. It will not turn on and the Geek Squad could not repair it.   To me that is traumatic, I had the other one for so long and was used to using it. I’ve spent the past week trying to get it all set up and never realized how many apps you have that you depend on.  Writing this blog, I had to stop and download several apps that I use in writing my blog. I  believe we take too much for granted when using a computer.  I am hoping this one will be sufficient for the task.
